Our hawkwatch team has an off-season field trip every year. This year we again did some birding in the Rio Vista area, a place that seems to be teeming with raptors this time of year, including more Ferruginous Hawks than we've ever seen in a single day. We also saw a falcon's leftovers, Sandhill Cranes (the birds standing in groups on the ground) and other waterfowl (the big groups flying in formation are Snow Geese) flying in to a location northeast of there, to the accompaniment of a stark-raving sunset.
