S: Now it's just a matter of driving up the west side of the lake on 89, connecting with I-80, declaring no fruit, and joining the smothering mass of humanity, all hurtling slightly too fast and WAY too close together down the wide curves from Donner Pass. Sheesh, how many came speeding up behind and then rode too close behind me for miles when there was endless opportunity to pass, or sped up behind and then slowed down for the actual passing, or passed and then hit the brakes in front of me? Sometimes, these kinds of antics will provoke some kind of reaction from me, but today I just let it flow. Plow thru Sacramento, playing the lane game between people going 90mph and people going 55 (the speed limit is 65). I'm in no mood to tempt fate and the long arm of the law, so stay under 70 in the number-two lane most of the way. Marine World has added a LOT of roller coasters, and I think soon will dispense with the more troublesome (and less ROI) animals entirely. The coasters look fun, and we like the swimming tigers too. Must visit again soon. Traffic on 101 is so dense we just turn off at Penngrove, and take the backroads home from there.
T: For once we're rewarded with the sight of various other motorists who have speeded around us, pulled over by CHP.
This is really the worst driving of the whole trip, in my mind at least. I'll take just about any kind of driving over this freeway nonsense with weaving traffic. Steve does it all in stride, and we're soon home, ready to face Buddy's inevitable chastising for Dad being away for so long.
Gee, I really like this marriage thing so far! <g>
